In honor of Pinnix's 75th anniversary, we are proud to announce the inception of "The Pinnix Prize". We will be awarding $3,000 to the best 11th grade art students in Gaston County every year!
We chose to give a prize to young artist because we believe that an art education exposes students to the widest possible variety of aesthetics, encourages them to broaden their horizons and to develop respect for individuals who see things differently. An art education provides an understanding and appreciation of this world like nothing else can.
We considered having a party for all of our customers or making a single donation to a local philanthropy, but decided we wanted to thank the entire community for allowing Pinnix to flourish over the past 75 years. "The Pinnix Prize" is our way of giving back.
On February 6th, 2003, Pinnix and Art 1 Gallery hosted the awards ceremony where Andrew Glassmire of Gaston Day School (Self-Portrait), received "The Pinnix Prize" of a $1,000. The additional $2,000 was awarded in increments at the judges descretion. Matt Barr of Bessemer City High School (Nomad Sculpture), Anita Partlow of Highland Technology (Self Portriat Collage), Dominque Shoates of Huss (Dog Portrait), Brandon Cornwell of North Gaston (Clay Growth), Erica Halloway of Warlick (Cougar Portrait), were all additional winners. Please help us in congratulating all these talented students.
